When I was in high school, I was in this English class and we would read various poems out loud and Mr. Scotese was always fascinated by these poems. At the time, I thought that he was crazy but now that I look at them, they strike me almost as much as it struck him. These two particular poems we read together. We would start with the paragraph of the first one, then shift to the first paragraph of the other and so on... it's amazing how do they not only go together beautifully, but the nymph so graciously ditches the shepard. Why can't us girls have these wonderful replys to mens flatterings? :)

Shepard to His Love Come live with me and be my love, And we will sit upon the rocks, And I will make thee beds of roses, A gown made of the finest wool, A belt of straw and ivy buds The shepard swains shall dance and sing |
