Day 4 & 5 and we're off to Playa Hermosa for a change of scenery. While Ocotal
was romantic and secluded, Hermosa is a tourist beach and we stayed in a hotel
steps from the sand. A little swimming, and little lounging, and we're off with
the diving team in the morning. Little did we know there would be waves and
jellyfish (stung like crazy), but we had fun anyway!

Doesn't this look like somewhere you could totally go and never leave?
We thought about it, more than once - more so when there were massages
on the beach!
(see the table on the left? That was where I was for a good hour - what
a wonderful day that was!)

Hotel El Velero

Diving Safaris de Costa Rica
These guys had a diving team that was going out, so we hitched a ride
for some snorkeling which was thrilling and challenging (it's amazing
how many times you think to yourself, 'I'm SO going to drown'). Next
time, I'm going to do a little swim practice before I attempt to swim
out in the ocean.

Waiting for everyone to get assembled... those divers had some serious
equipment!

Our first destination was Monkey Head, which I'm sure had great
snorkeling on a less windier day, but we braved it anyway. Poor Sam had
to give up due to leg cramps, and I wished there was some way to get
around the rock without killing myself. But alas, no such swimming was
to be had, so I hitched a ride with a boat going by so I could get back
to Sam and my boat. Sheesh!

What a studly man!
:)

The sound of the waves is a wondrous thing.

Now *that's* a pose!
(little does the viewer know that Sam was practically falling off the
boat)

This was a kid who was swimming around with me... thank god for him or I
would have crashed several times.

I was determined to take pictures of fish, but I was too busy looking at
them to focus. And then, of course, there was that fast swimming away
that they kept doing. Damn fish.

The only fish I actually got on film. Figures...
(didn't see it, did ya? That's ok... I had to search this photo several
times before I saw the damn thing... I always thought snorkeling was
like it was in the movies. All the fish come out, the water's clear,
it's easy looking, all blue, etc. etc. No such luck for me. I left Costa
Rica thinking that the movies all lie.)

I wasn't a big fan of the edge of the boat, so I hurriedly scurried back
to the middle when the photo was over.
I'm such a wuss.

After a morning of snorkeling, we visited Ginger Restaurant which had
tapas-style Asian-Mediterranean cuisine (if that makes any sense). It
was WONDERFUL and we ate till we could barely move! And they had GREAT
music including some Costa Rican bands which will always remind me of
this trip. For a sample, click below

ps - this link is included on the top of every page, in the upper left
corner. Editus has some wonderful tunes! The name of this song is 'Muchacha
y Luna'

Regardless of what Sam looks like, we had a GREAT time here!

And dessert... aaah, dessert. Mine was a meringue with whipped cream and
raspberry sauce, surrounded by fresh mangoes, papayas, strawberries in a
mango juice sauce. Ah, heaven!
