July 30, 2008
Dear members and friends of the Meher Baba Information Center of Chicago,
It is with great regret that the board finds it necessary to officially close the physical center located at 944 West Hubbard Street.
Although we continue to receive loving donations from many sources, these funds are no longer sufficient to support a physical center. These funds will continue, however, to support Meher Baba Information Center of Chicago related activities such as the important function of bringing in guests from out of town.
In the future, if ample funds are again available, we hope to reopen a physical center. We are reminded that Meher Baba frequently built, opened and then dissolved such structures for His work.
We believe it is the sentiment of the group at large that we can remain strongly connected in Baba’s love without the physical center. We can continue to meet in various homes as we have been doing over these past several months. The board will also continue to meet periodically to plan and coordinate activities.
Items in the center that are on loan from individuals will be returned to their rightful owners. Other items that are the property of the center will be catalogued and stored. Certain items that are no longer in use will be donated to the center in Myrtle Beach.
Baba’s sadra and garland will remain in the care of Myron Kovalevych until such time than the center is re-opened, in accordance with Mani Irani and Bhau Kalchuri’s direction. The sadra will be transported, if possible, to all gatherings and meetings.
The presence of a physical center in Chicago has not only been enjoyed by Baba lovers here, but by Baba lovers all over the world for more than 30 years. It has been visited by many of the mandali, including Adi K. Irani, Kitty Davy, Bhau, Katie, Aloba and Meheru, as well as special guests such as Lynn Ott, Dara & Amrit Irani, Rustom & Sohrab, Charles Haynes, Bili Eaton, Donald Mahler, Tex Hightower, Alex Sprinkle, Wendy & Buz and many others. In the spirit of Baba’s love, Bhau has encouraged us to have a final meeting and close the current center with Arti. This will be held on August 10th at 3pm and is open to all who wish to join us.
Although the physical center will be closed, meetings and guests will continue and will be open to all who wish to participate. If you would like to be updated with this information, please send an email to MeherBaba@juno.com to let us know, or visit our website at www.alishya.com/chicago for current events.
Meher Baba has said “I want my lovers and workers to know that there is no greater Baba Center than the heart of my lover. Those who truly love me are my centers in the world. Let each ‘Baba Lover’ wherever he or she may be, be the ‘Baba Center’ personified, radiating the eternal message of Love Divine, living a life of love, sacrifice and honesty.”
Sincerely,
Board of the Meher Baba Information Center of Chicago
Mary Biskup, President
